The warehouse receiving process is the critical first step in your FBA or 3PL workflow — it's when your inventory transitions from your supplier's hands to your logistics partner's responsibility.
Step 1: Carrier Delivery
FedEx, UPS, USPS, LTL freight, or ocean containers are received at the warehouse dock. Staff verifies the delivery matches the advance shipping notification (ASN) you've provided.
Step 2: Carton Count and Condition Check
Every carton is counted and visually inspected for damage before acceptance. Damaged cartons are photographed and noted in the receiving report.
Step 3: Unit-Level Logging
Units are logged into the warehouse management system (WMS) — either by scanning barcodes or entering quantities manually. This creates your inventory record and triggers a notification to you.
Step 4: Staging for Prep
Received inventory is staged in designated prep areas for the next workflow step — labeling, poly-bagging, inspection, or storage.
